This Scottish style brewery in Mesa, Arizona is run by Ian Cameron. Ian’s family hails from Lochiel, hence the name. Not a brew pub restaurant, Lochiel is more a tasting room and production facility, although they do have snacks and you are welcome to bring your own food. If you are a fan of Scottish and English style brewing it is well worth a visit. You are welcome to bring your growler to have it filled or you can buy one of their 32oz cans which they call “cabers”. They will can it for you on the spot, which I think is really cool.
I will definitely be spending more time at this brewery. Being a fan of UK style brewing I really appreciate their traditional approach. Below is a flight I had recently which consisted of their Extra Special Bitter, a really smooth Porter, what Lochiel calls their “Strong Pale” which is actually a traditional IPA, which, although still hoppy is more balanced between malt and hops then most modern American craft brew IPA’s, and their English Mild which is an easy drinking English style brown ale. What, no Stout? Not on this flight although they do have one and it is good. But more on that later.
The Mighty Caber! 32 oz of Scottish style brewing goodness. For you hobbits, that’s two pints.
